Know Something We Forgot? Is There A Free Reverse Cell Phone Directory?Resources |
Free Reverse Cell Phone DirectoryGo to You Tube or Google and type in the words Free Reverse Cell Phone Directory. Lots of options will appear. But start clicking or viewing and what you will find is that free is not what you are going to get. Cell phone numbers are not in any public directory. Just imagine how many obnoxious telemarketers would find you if they were! The very thing that protects you from an overwhelming number of costly telemarketing calls also prevents you from finding out who the person is that keeps calling you and not leaving messages or who called wanting a date, but you have no clue who they are. All is not lost, however. There are a couple of bright sides here. First of all, maybe the person is calling from a land line instead of a cell phone. That information is in the public domain and you can go to a reverse directory or to Google, type in the phone number and get a name and address absolutely free. If it is cell phone information you are looking for, it is a little trickier. You can type in the phone number in question and you will get the area the cell phone is linked to. This is not necessarily where the individual lives, but will give you a general location. If you want more information you have to pay for it and in some cases that information is available and in some it is not. Look for a website that tells you upfront if the information is available before you pay. Don't buy a pig in a poke! Easy Things To Try FirstGo to Google and type in the cell phone number, surrounded by quotes. When you surround something by quotes, you tell Google to look for exactly what is inside the quotes, no more and no less. Many times the person you are looking for has put their cell number on a web page somewhere. If so, it's likely that Google has snagged it -- and that means you can find it. The trick here is that you have to use quotes, and you have to try various ways that people might list their number on a web page. Sometimes people will use dashes (-) between the numbrers, like so: 123-456-7890. Sometimes they will use spaces. Sometimes people use periods. And remember too that some people put the area code in parenthesis. So there are several different combinations to try. What happens if you forget to use the quotes? Well Google will find all kinds of pages with numbers on them kind of like the cell number you are looking for. There could be thousands of them -- parts numbers for radios, street addresses, page numbers in a book. It's really impossible to make this work without the quotes. Once Google returns the pages, look around for one that looks like it is part of contact information. It's easy, and most of the time it works! |
