Tracing a Location Because Somebody Called YouIf you're trying to find out where somebody was that called you, you can try using one of the reverse cell phone directory. Note that by using the number, you can only (if you are lucky) get the approximate location, but if you can find a web contact page, most likely you can get much closer. If you want the exact GPS coordinates from where somebody called you -- sorry, but we're not there yet. Although most cell phones keep track of exactly where they are, that information is not transmitted as part of the call. Only the phone owner and the cell phone company know. Of course, there is software that allows to be tracked by gps, but that software needs to be installed ahead of time on the phone. Tracing a Mobile Phone LocationIf you are trying tracing a mobile phone location, either because you have lost it or it has been stolen, the best thing to do is go through some basic steps.
If the above steps don't work, you can always try calling the cell phone company. They may be able to assist you. If you are lucky enough to have not currently lost your phone, but are only thinking about what you would do if that would happen, then you are ahead of the game and today is your lucky day. Being prepared is your best weapon against a lost or stolen phone. Take a moment now with your cell phone. Just punch in *#06#, and the phone will display a 15-digit number. Write this number down and put it in a safe place. This is your IMEI (international mobile equipment identity) number. If your cell phone should get stolen, you can then contact your cell phone provider. cell operators can block or track all calls originating from a lost or stolen cell phone provided the IMEI number is available to them. Another way to be prepared is if you are plugged into some type of service or software that makes use of your GPS receiver that is in your phone. Then you can contact that company or utilize that software for assistance. |
